Jag flyttades 50 \u00e5r tillbaka i tiden till en lugn och vacker arbetsplats. P\u00e5 v\u00e4stra kanallinjen var enbart gamla hederliga kanalvaktare och kanalarbetare, gamla trotj\u00e4nare. P\u00e5 hela kanalen var d\u00e5 8 st gamla kanalinspektorer, pensionerade milit\u00e4rer i alla grader.&nbsp;Segelb\u00e5tar och \u00e5ngb\u00e5tar gled lugnt och sakta fram, liksom alla 8 passagerarb\u00e5tarna med dess glada passagerare och gamla fryntliga kaptener. Jag kom att trivas fr\u00e5n f\u00f6rsta stund.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>F\u00f6rsta tiden f\u00e4rdades jag utefter kanalen p\u00e5 cykel p\u00e5 dragv\u00e4gen och \u00e5kte med b\u00e5t \u00f6ver sj\u00f6arna, oftast med passb\u00e5tarna som d\u00e5 gick n\u00e4stan dagligen i b\u00e5da riktningarna sommartid. Vid Lanth\u00f6jden, ibland redan vid Wassbacken brukade kaptenerna sl\u00e4ppa iland de yngre personerna och sedan fick de g\u00e5 trallande utefter den vackra kanalbanken och plocka blommor och smultron. De hade god tid p\u00e5 sig, s\u00e4rskilt vid b\u00e5tm\u00f6ten i bergskanalen d\u00e4r det kunde ta \u00e4nda till tv\u00e5 timmar att komma fram vid b\u00e5tm\u00f6ten. Var det smultrontid d\u00e5 gl\u00f6mde ungdomarna helt bort tiden och d\u00e5 fick kaptenerna vid framkomsten till T\u00e5torp skicka en b\u00e5tspojke efter dem.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e5 beskrev Axel Olsson sitt f\u00f6rsta m\u00f6te med G\u00f6ta kanal.<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.kb-image2840_c81cc0-ad .kb-image-has-overlay:after{opacity:0.3;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"wp-block-kadence-image kb-image2840_c81cc0-ad\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"688\" height=\"938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gotakanalhistoria.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Bild-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"kb-img wp-image-3239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gotakanalhistoria.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Bild-3.jpeg 688w, https:\/\/www.gotakanalhistoria.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Bild-3-220x300.jpeg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 688px) 100vw, 688px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Axel Olsson f\u00f6ddes i Lund den 7 oktober 1893. Den 5 juni 1916 slutade han Tekniska Elementarskolan i Malm\u00f6. Den 14 juni 1916 b\u00f6rjade han att arbeta vid AB Sk\u00e5nska Cement med uppeh\u00e5ll&nbsp; fr\u00e5n den 4 november 1916 till 1 april 1917 d\u00e5 han gjorde sin excersis. Den 20 mars 1918 slutade han vid AB Sk\u00e5nska Cement och b\u00f6rjade den 24 mars som ritare och konstrukt\u00f6r f\u00f6r Mo &amp; Domsj\u00f6 Aktiebolags vattenkraftsanl\u00e4ggning vid F\u00e4llforsen i Ume\u00e4lv och \u00e4ven av Gide\u00e5 &amp; Husum Aktiebolag planerad regleringsdamm vid Norrgidsj\u00f6 i Gide\u00e4lv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Redan 30 september slutade han f\u00f6r att ist\u00e4llet b\u00f6rja vid Kungl. Kanalkommisionen den 1 oktober 1918. Han hamnade d\u00e5 i Lidk\u00f6ping men blev f\u00f6rflyttade till T\u00f6reboda den 7 maj 1919. Den 3 februari 1920 b\u00f6rjade han arbeta vid G\u00f6ta kanalbolag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fr\u00e5n ett styrelseprotokoll f\u00f6r G\u00f6ta Kanalbolag den 10 augusti 1920 st\u00e5r &#8221;<em>i anledning av d\u00e4rom gjord framst\u00e4llning besl\u00f6t Direktionen att bemyndiga \u00f6veringenj\u00f6ren att till sin hj\u00e4lp anst\u00e4lla ingenj\u00f6ren Axel Olsson s\u00e5som tj\u00e4nstebitr\u00e4de mot en avl\u00f6ning av omkring 350 kr i m\u00e5naden&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fr\u00e5n och med den 1 november 1931 \u00e4r hans ben\u00e4mning kanalbyggm\u00e4stare f\u00f6r v\u00e4stra linjen med placering i Hajstorp. Som arbetsledare fick han allas aktning och respekt, &#8221;<em>en human och r\u00e4ttr\u00e5dig men samtidigt best\u00e4md och noggrann man. Hans stora hobby och rekreation var hans tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rd som han \u00e4gnade sig \u00e5t d\u00e5 tid fanns. Blomsterprakten i tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rden i Hajstorp kunde ingen undg\u00e5 att se d\u00e5 man passerade Hajstorp<\/em>&#8221; som tidningen beskrev d\u00e5 Axel Olsson skulle fylla 50 \u00e5r.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1945 tilldelades han Patriotiska s\u00e4llskapets medalj i guld, 2:storleken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Han hade ett genuint intresse f\u00f6r G\u00f6ta kanal och i kanalbolagets f\u00f6rr\u00e5d hittade han gamla redskap och verktyg fr\u00e5n d\u00e5 man byggde kanalen. Det ans\u00e5gs vara skr\u00e4p och skulle kastas men Axel g\u00f6mde undan dem och till slut hade han ca 280 f\u00f6rem\u00e5l. Det tog m\u00e5nga \u00e5r innan samlingarna blev s\u00e5 stora men han gick igenom f\u00f6rr\u00e5d efter f\u00f6rr\u00e5d. Axel hittade dem fr\u00e5n Sj\u00f6torp till Forsvik. I m\u00e5nga \u00e5r arbetade han med att numrera dem och skriva in dem i en liten bok. Till sist hamnade samlingen i ett gammalt spannm\u00e5lsmagasin i Sj\u00f6torp. P\u00e5 1980- talet flyttades samlingen till Motala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under Axel Olssons tid vid kanalen h\u00e4nde mycket. Det st\u00f6rsta projektet var den nya kanalleden f\u00f6rbi Lanth\u00f6jden mellan 1930-33.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Olyckor h\u00e4nde det ocks\u00e5, den 3 juni 1931 k\u00f6rde Juno s\u00f6nder slussportarna vid S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping och Axel Olsson som d\u00e5 befann sig i Riddarhagen fick genast \u00e5ka \u00f6ver till \u00f6stg\u00f6tasidan och S\u00f6derk\u00f6ping f\u00f6r att leda arbetet. Kanalingenj\u00f6ren p\u00e5 \u00f6stg\u00f6tasidan, R. Christoffersson r\u00e4knade med att det skulle ta 14 dagar att f\u00e5 slussen reparerad. Tio \u00e5r senare var det dags f\u00f6r \u00e4nnu ett 100 \u00e5rs firande, denna g\u00e5ngen i Motala och att det var 100 \u00e5r sedan hela kanalen fr\u00e5n Mem till Sj\u00f6torp var klar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8221;<em>Protokoll, h\u00e5llet vid sammantr\u00e4de med G\u00f6ta Kanaldirektionen i Stockholm den 25 augusti 1960<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>N\u00e4rvarande; Ordf\u00f6rande, Herr Landsh\u00f6vding Per Eckerberg, v. Munck af Rosensch\u00f6ld, Direkt\u00f6ren f\u00f6r \u00f6stra kanaldistriktet, Herr Talmannen m.m M. Dessutom skedde ett ras p\u00e5 kanalbanken vid Mem p\u00e5 cirka 40 meter strax innan kanalen skulle \u00f6ppnas och d\u00e5 skickades Axel dit f\u00f6r att leda detta
